as promised

I'm drawing this for my Aunt. I wanted to draw her from memory but, I can't do that so this became a picture of no one in particular. Well, an African woman actually. I just need to finish the background and the necklace. Also, I'll add more contrast here and there.

uh yeah..

For the one or two people checking this blog I'm sorry I've been away so long. I do have some new work to show but, it will be posted tomorrow. Well, actually it will be later today as it is almost 2am. I could've sworn it was just 12:30 and I have to get up for work at 6. So, I'm going to try to sleep for 4 hours. I'm doing a charcoal drawing for my Aunt and I will post it when I return.

latest commission

I was waiting on her to provide me with another photo to draw from but, she ended up deleting it by mistake. So, I had tried to do this one before and wasn't "feeling" it. Finally after a year or so of her bugging me I finally did it three weeks ago. She loved it but, the inconsistency of my daily drawings shows in parts of it. It still seems stiff. My last instructor years ago kept asking me to loosen up. I need to work on that. Anyway, this has sparked the interest of two other people who want something now. I already know one will be a pain because I am being asked everyday about whether or not I have finished my thumbnail sketches.

2:46 in the morn

It's 2:46 in the morning. I laid down on the bed at 9pm and crashed hard until 1:30. My body was obviously tired. I had intended to do some preliminary sketches for a new portrait commission. My sketchbook rested beside me as I slept. Then of course I had to poke around on the laptop next to my bed and another hour has gone by. The last stop I made was to Stephanie Puimun Law's blog (she has a blog now!) I remember when she was just on deviant art. Now she's on Etsy and so forth. I was thinking about how I've let so much time pass without digging my heals into creating.

I've debated a lot about what to do with my life. Do I go into Computers (IT) or whatever high profile job my ego suggested. Or, do I simply throw caution to the wind and stop running from what I've been doing all my life. Sadly all I've done is debate these ideas and haven't made and inch of progress either way. My best friend has been a nurse for 5 years now. I met her before she went to college. I feel so left behind at times. I would help her study for exams and encourage her when she thought that she would never make it out of school. Why is it so easy for me to help other people but not myself?

Well, I've gotta go back to bed. The alarm is set for 5:40 so I can get up and go work for somebody else for now. There are days like yesterday when I really want to give the peace sign and walk out the door.

folds and stuff

To honor my old graphics instructor I'm going to draw some elderly people. In school she called me out and said that I only drew those "youthful model" chics. I was like, well yeah. I was a 21 year old horndog what else did she expect? She was the only person to challenge me though. For one of our projects she wrote a story about and elderly couple having lunch at a restaurant in Italy. I was asked to illustrate it of course. I didn't do too bad I guess. Looking back I should've used a few reference photos. Just so I wouldn't be totally compliant with what she asked, I managed to draw a young waitress standing by their table as they ordered food. Thanks a lot Carrie.

I want this

The Canon Powershot Sx10 IS with 10 mp and 20x optical zoom. Oh yeah.

well...

I've been crashing pretty much when i get home. The work load continues to increase at my job and the worst part hasn't come yet. I need to update my resume' and start sending it out. There are a couple of projects that I need to complete. The commission for one needs to be done asap. I'll work on it this weekend. I'd like to give painting another go. I did okay at first but then I got distracted.
The Geisha project with my buddies is going rather slowly. I know once E finishes his part then Doc will totally kill the colors. I don't really like digital painting but, I'm still interested in what the final will look like. I did the sketch while I was at work. For this I did not have a reference picture so I may go back and make some anatomical corrections but, not to the point where it becomes stiff.

latest commission

A co-worker asked me to do a fairy for her. This is a first sketch. I plan to finish it in watercolor and color pencil. The pic is from my cell phone. I've saved up enough money now for a camera and a scanner so, what I share will be looking a lot better soon.
